  1. A Storyteller Takes Us With Him 4 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Dec 2015

As Brent has done over these many years he invites us to share some time and along the way creates these visions and places. The writing is solid...the music placed perfectly for all of us to wonder and enjoy. What's left...you play it again and again.

  2. A True Treasure 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Oct 2015

Brent Best is a musical gift that I am glad I have been able to share all these years. His long awaited solo album is finally up on us and its stripped down brilliance is evident when the album is done and you wondering where the rest of the songs are. His songs were raucous and loud with Slobberbone. However, this record is much more personal and with more depth to the feel of the songs you are left with a rough and haunting record that will get a lot of spins long after is release. This is the real deal. High recommend it.

  3. does your heart have some lightness? 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Sep 2015

Maybe some hope has grown up between the bricks of despair? This album will take care of that for you. Each song harder to listen to than the one before, but I've not stopped listening since it landed in my CD player. It's so beautiful in its heartbreak and melancholy. Thank you?

  4. Amid the Shuffle 4 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Sep 2015

I have these great Bose floor speakers that produce a live-sounding warm replay of CD's that does not make me miss vinyl. When I get new music, I often put five discs on at the same time-- things I think might be compatible and complimentary. So, I listened to Brent Best's solo album alongside the Heartless Bastards and Wilco's new discs, along with randomly chosen Paul Westerberg Folker, and Jackson Browne the Pretender. Odd? Maybe, but it was a joyous listening experience. There was enough overlap in styles to match the disparate arrangements, voices, and productions. Did Brent match up? Let's just say, I would rank Wilco and the Bastards below his new CD. That usually means great depth and future rewards as I continue to play it in my home rotation. Nice!

  5. Quieter and gentler, but still stunning and brilliant 5 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Aug 2015

Sometimes, good things come to those who wait. Brent's long awaited solo record is a smashing success. It is a brilliant bit of Americana. More refined than his Slobberbone work, but not losing any of his sly songwriting and lyrical twists. Quiet strings and steel guitar. Flawed characters and long ago memories. Broken but not beaten. This is the kind of solo album any fan would have hoped for from Brent. It is rough and beautiful. Striking and strange. Highly, highly recommended.

  6. Worth the Wait 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Aug 2015

Brent Best has released one of the most interesting solo records this year. The spare arrangements nicely support the sometimes bleak, sometimes hopeful lyrics. The best? His last one, "It is you." Great lyrics and an equally great vocal.

Clearly worth the several years of waiting for his record.
