Austin Lucas recorded his groundbreaking album throughout most of December 2008. Austin recorded with his father (Bob Lucas) as engineer and with his family band backing him. Mastered by Grey Larsen, the 11 track album captures Austin at his very best, recording an album that was surely be a contender for the greatest folk/roots/country album of 2009.
Austin Lucas is a giant in the making. A veteran of grind and hardcore bands in the Czech Republic and in his home state of Indiana, recent years have found him pursuing a rootsier direction equally informed of his time in the prestigious Indiana Youth Choir and as a member of a well-respected bluegrass family. Lucas sings like an angel, but the same time displays the swagger and venom you would expect from an artist whose last release was entitled At War with Freak Folk. Backed simply by his father, sister and Todd Beene from Glossary/Lucero, Somebody Loves You is wonderfully austere, leaving ample space for Lucas and his soaring tenor. Paired with a lyrical bent that combines the best parts of Richard Buckner and Townes Van Zandt, Austin Lucas is an artist on the brink of doing very big things. --PopMatters
